11TH University course fluidization Technologies, Hamburg, Germany, 4-7 November 2019

Fluidization technology has a tremendous economic importance and is used for a wide range of physical and chemical processes. This course highlights he fundamentals and applications of various fluidized bed processes for drying, coating, granulation and agglomeration of particles with practical hints and extensive calculation examples. The focus is on fluid mechanics, mixing, heat and mass transfer and particle formulation mechanisms. Furthermore, actual appliations as well as modern computational tools and measuring techniques are presented. Practical process demonstrations in leading laboratories and tutorials will strengthen the acquired knowledge given by leading national and international scientists and experts from academia and industry.
The course is designed for people from various backgrounds (engineers, chemists, food and pharmaceutical technologists) and with different levels of experience, who need to understand the fundamentals of applications of modern and efficient fluidized bed processes. The course language is English.

4th conference on Innovations in Encapsulation, 13/12/2019, London, UK

The Formulation Science and Technology group (FSTG) of the Royal Society of Chemistry is pleased to announce that it is planning to hold its 4th confe ence on Innovations in Encapsulation on Dec 13th in Burlington House, Piccadilly, London. This year we also will be including the very sensitive topic of creating biodegradable microbeads together with routes to making self-healing concrete. The conference will be of great interest to academics who will be providing us with an insight into their innovations in this field either via the oral presentation of a paper or through the submission of a poster. These presentations and posters will be of great interest to industrialists who may find that this conference opens up new areas of collaboration between them and the academics. Once again, we have deliberately extended the conference day by allowing time for networking at the end supported by additional seasonal refreshments. The deadline for abstracts submission for the oral presentations has been set for May 31st. Abstracts for posters should be received by Sept 30th. There have been nearly 100 delegates at each of the previous London conferences.

22nd International Symposium on Microencapsulation, September 25-29, 2019, Savador, Brazil

It is our great pleasure and honor to co-host the 22nd International Symposium on Microencapsulation together with the International Microencapsulatio Society and the Federal University of Bahia. This well-established series of international symposia started in 1972 as a forum for scientific discussions in the microencapsulation field. The meetings have been held at approximately 2 yearly intervals.

PhD in Seafood Science and Technology is looking for a Postdoctoral position in Encapsulation of bioactive materials

I have PhD in Seafood Science and Technology from Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources of Iran, and I am looking for a pos doctoral or assistant researcher position in Encapsulation of bioactive materials for fortifying food products. During my PhD studies, I optimised the encapsulation of fish protein hydrolysate and fish oil in the complexes of protein (whey protein concentrate) and carbohydrates (Inulin and Fucoidan) as wall materials using double emulsion by freeze- and spray dryer, under the supervision of Prof. Bahareh Shabanpour. I was extracted the fish protein hydrolysate (from underutilised fish) and Fucoidan (from brown seaweed) and we fortified the yogurt using the obtained microcapsules. I have been trained under supervision of Prof. Trinidad Pérez Palacios and Prof. Teresa Antequera Rojas for a period of 9 months through the project from the Spanish Ministry: Advance in the study of the microencapsulation of omega-3 fatty acid to enrich meat products. I am highly motivated, hard-working, creative individual who works well independently as well as collaboratively on teams of scientists from diverse backgrounds.

Emulsification and encapsulation by soft matter techniques, ACS Fall Meeting, San Diego, 25-29 August 2019

The soft matter community is working actively on the generation of new types of colloids, i.e. nanoparticles of interesting actives (drugs, tracers, b omolecules of any sorts) or nanocapsules integrating these in their core. Different soft techniques exist nowadays to perform so, including spontaneous emulsification (of any kind) or emulsion polymerization, to prepare e.g. polymersomes or nanostructured particles, respectively. The release of the active, either through natural or targeted degradation, or by an external trigger, is also a field of constant discovery and interest. This ACS fall meeting session aims at gathering under the same scope biologist, pharmacologists, chemists and physicists interested in the protection and release of any types of actives as well as the formation of structure colloids. We will cover the preparation, the characterization and application of these small objects and structured colloids in a range of applications including agro, cosmetic, food or pharmaceutical applications.
